Following completion of his BE in engineering at Pune University, Sabharwal joined ICL UK (which is now known as Fujitsu ICIM), Pune, in a job at a salary of Rs 1,500 a month. Incubation: SI Consultants

In January 1992, by investing Rs 10,000, Sabharwal started the consultancy SI Consultants in Delhi. He managed to buy a computer and hire three employees after borrowing a bank loan. This brought him an association with the world's largest independent manufacturer of memory products, and in the following two years he became Kingston's distributor in India. Thereafter, for nearly two years Sabharwal had training in manufacturing memory technology, and he went to the U.S. every two months to keep himself abreast with developments in his field.

By 1992, with a good amount of experience in memory technology, he thought to start his own brand. In April 1992, he started Simmtronics by selling memory modules and Dynamic Random Access Memory (DRAM) technology to companies like Tulip Telecomm, which later expanded to HCL, LG, and Sahara.

Growth and Diversification

By Sabharwal's efforts, Simmtronics grew greatly:

• Manufacturing Plants: Simmtronics inaugurated its first manufacturing plant for memory modules at Bhiwadi, Rajasthan, in 2000, and a second one at Roorkee.
• Product Line Expansions: Simmtronics expanded the product lines with motherboards, graphic cards, monitors, USB drives, and tablets catering to a wide array of customers globally.
• International Reach: The company established distribution subsidiaries in Singapore in 2005 and Dubai in 2006.

By 2012, Simmtronics had 21 offices in 14 countries and employed 500 people. The company's turnover had reached Rs 550 crore with a consistent annual profit margin of 10-12%.
